I still think Project decks are great but if I was in the market and there were two decks at the same price Id pick the Rega. I have sound on the left channel and some very very faint sound from the right channel. I have checked all the connections inside the turntable and found nothing was broken or loose. When I connected the cartridge with the left and right connections crossed over it worked perfectly Dont ask me why, I have no idea, but you could try it. ![]() I wanted the Rega Planar 3 but could not afford the higher price. I have checked the ampspeakers by connecting to a cd player and they worked fine. Once you get the Dual working ok it would be a good step to sell it and pick up a Rega. Id buy the Planer3. Unless you have a very high resolution system its the only deck youll ever need. I once bought one that came with a cartridge that was worth more than the deck Heres an example: LINK. If the repair cost is too expensive then it is not worth pursuing. I will decide on a replacement.RP1 or Planar3. I have looked on the internet, the Planar 3 still commands a decent price considering that they were made a few decades ago Thanks for the advice Mr Pig. Looking to spend upto about 200 and have shortlisted the following as a potential purchase: Rega RP1 Project Debut III If I was to buy secondhand and then would only consider a Rega Planar 3. I know a lot of you would recommend and speak highly of the Planar 3 but I am unsure about buying a turntable that is likely to have been in storage for a good few years. ![]() Whereas if it was to buy new then there would proabably not much else to spend for a good few years of listening. As the Planer 3 is better than the others I would still buy it though, in the long run its a better investment. I would change the oil on a used Rega as a matter of course but other than that it should just work. The motor might fail on you at some point but theres not much else to go wrong. Check the arm when you buy the thing but Rega arms are very robust indeed. I note your comment regarding the Debut but if I decide to buy new.do you recommend the RP1. Not because I think theyre better at every price point but because I have more faith in the company. Ive seen quite a few people suffering build quality or set-up issues with Project decks and if you look at they youll see that Rega decks are generally built to a higher standard.
